HECATE

About the project

HECATE was written and directed by my talented wife Mascha Deikova. It is a short film about the encounter between a witch and her hunter.

As filmmakers my wife and I love to shoot narrative projects, but unfortunately not every project that pays the bills falls into this category. Therefore every once in a while we feel the need to make something that is truely our own. HECATE is one of these projects.

We are very lucky that we have many gifted friends who were kind enough to support our ideas and help us for this shoot. After a long wait (we got cancelled by a location just before the shoot and had to wait for another year) we were finally able to put on our boots and spend two days and nights in the bavarian forest to film HECATE.

For me it was a big challenge in many ways: from figuring out how to light a dark forest with limited resources to putting a camera crane on very soft and muddy forest floor and hovering the camera over a pool of water. There were many things that could have gone wrong, but thankfully almost everything turned out how we wanted it to.

All in all the project was a dream come true. Our crew was amazing and this shoot allowed us to try many new things (like a cable cam – yummie). Thanks again to all our friends – they are truely amazing!
