From a farmer’s boy to becoming a Director of Photography

I grew up on a small farm surrounded by nature and sheep, which soon learned that the camera and flash in my hand are here to stay. Later when my dad handed me his macro lens, a whole new world opened up to me that I had never seen before. It was a miracle.

With the first computer at home (Windows 95), I not only made the Prince of Persia jump over wobbly platforms for the first time, but also learned that you can create and edit images with a computer. I threw myself into it like a madman: I distorted the faces of my best friends, animated emojis and even wrote my own tutorials, which I published on my online blog. I wanted to learn all the tools and techniques.

My fascination with images continued to develop. Many photos later, I finally discovered this red button on my camera and soon after I had filmed my first sketches. Film was a completely new medium for me, which seemed so rich and complex – I had to immerse myself in it! By then I also knew that I would definitely turn my hobby into a career eventually. I never wanted to do anything else. And so one step followed another.

My bachelor studies (Media Technology and Design, University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg) gave me a huge boost of motivation, as it was the first time I was surrounded by people who shared my passion. We also made our first animated film Pakan, which has been viewed over 3 million times to date. Crazy!

A Master’s degree in MultiMediaArt Future Cinema at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg followed. While shooting numerous student films I was able to improve my skills behind the camera in a lot. My goal was always to be able to realize every image I had in my head. I made a big step towards this goal during my studies.

And today?

Today I still live in Salzburg and have turned my hobby into a career. As a cinematographer, editor and colorist, I have been able to incorporate my creativity into a large number of projects. I love to work carefully and precisely, but also like to try out new things and challenge myself again and again.

It would be a pleasure to assist you as a cinematographer, editor or colorist with your next project and help you with my expertise.
